NUCLEAR POWER STATION - Coggle Diagram
NUCLEAR POWER STATION
GENERAL
Nuclear is considered to be a long-lasting energy source since a small volume of it is sufficient to produce a significant amount of electricity.
-
-
HOW DOES IT WORK?
-
These roads are immersed into a pool of water located in a large reactor with water walls around it.
Note that the function of these water walls are similar ones mentioned in a coal thermal power station
-
Energy produced would heat up water in the water wall to produce steam and ultimately superheated steam.
-
In order too maintain the safety of the plant, carbon rods are inserted into the reactor to absorb excess neutron hence bringing the energy production under safety levels.
-
POWER CAPACITY
There are about 500 nuclear power plants worldwide, typical unit size is about 600 to 1600 MW.
Nuclear power station are operated as base load power stations since it has high power capacity and needs to be in operation all the time.
