Biomimicry
Fish
Scales
Protection against predators
Can sometimes be used to show off with shiny scales
Fins
Sleek and aerodynamic
Already used on cars, planes as well as water vehicles
Gills
Used by fish to breathe underwater
Extracts the O2 from H2O
Are coldblooded
Lower metabolism and require less oxygen to survive
Is affected by the surrounding temperature
Can reliably detect change in temperature
Bioluminescence
Some fishes produce proteins which can glow
The light produced is shone through several membranes which makes it glow enough to see but not enough to be a big target for predators
Light shining through several translucent material makes it easy on the eyes on makes it less noticeable
Plants
Large leaf surface area allow maximum sunlight exposure
Wide but thin for surface area to weight ratio
Advised shape for collection tools ie water collectors and solar panels
Sunflowers
They turn to face the sun
Something which rotates to face an orientation for maximum effeciency
Roots
Many branches to maximise area covered
small to maximise surface area to volume to energy-needed-to-grow ratio
Birds
Birds have wings can be used to fly far without weighing too much
Light and Hollow bones
Used in hand gliders, which has a light frame
Light feathers which are shaped to be extra aerodynamic
Ability to tilt wings for more lift
Can be used for flying toys, such as remote control kites
Already used in aeroplanes so we know it works
Feathers can be easily replaced and also biodegradable
Bird talons
The feet are scaly and tough
Used as protection from the elements
Talons are generally curved so good for catching prey
Aren't well adapted to picking up anything else
