Pre-Helping: Attending
✨During this preparatory phase, the trainer communicates genuine interest and concern for the client.
✨Development of trust and positive regard/respect
Human Resources Development (HRD) model
Three helping phases (Carkhuff, 1969):
Personalizing ; trainer attempts to identify the personal meaning the client attributes to the problem.
Initiating ; trainer and client develop an action plan for accomplishing the goals.
Responding ; trainer strives to understand the client’s concerns by clarifying their feelings and content statements.
Life Skill Training
Step 2: The exercise professional responds to the skill area of physical fitness and focuses on the client’s deficit.
Step 3: The instructor and the client discuss how these identified areas of
concern affect the client.
