Ventilation

Diffusion

Oxygen and Carbon dioxide are exchanged at the alveolar capillary junctions in process of diffusion.

The process of ventilation involves both acquiring oxygen and removing carbon dioxide from the blood.

Disease; Pneumonia

Refers to inflammation of the lungs occurring commonly in the bronchioles, lung tissue, or the alveoli.

Treatments include; Prescribed oral antibiotics from a physician, and Intravenous Antibiotics that are down through IV's.

Disease; Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is also known as COPD. This is inflammation in the lungs blowing the air flowing in and out. Usually a generic term that describes all lung problems such as asthma, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis.

Treatments for COPD are inhaler steroids that help reduce any inflammation and oxygen therapy which proved extra oxygen to the lungs.

Disease; Emphysema is an irreversible enlargement of an air space beyond the terminal bronchioles, most notably in the alveoli.

Treatments for Emphysema are a-lot like COPD there are medications that can be taken or inhalers that can be prescribed by a physician.

Disease; Chronic Bronchitis is inflammation of the lining in the bronchial tubes. These tubes carry air in and out of the lungs.

Treatments for this disease include cough medicine that can be purchased at your local drug store, Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or analgesic narcotic.

Diseases; Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways that results in intermittent or persistent airway obstruction because of bronchial hyper-responsiveness.

Treatments for asthma include Anticholinergics and methylxanthines that are under the bronchodilators category. Another drug category is the anti-inflammatory drugs.

Disease; Cystic Fibrosis

Is an autosomal recessive disorder of electrolyte and subsequently water transport that affects certain epithelial cells.

Disease: Acute Respiratory Disease Syndrome

Acute Respiratory Disease Syndrome also known as ARDS is a condition of severe cute inflammation and pulmonary edema without evidence of fluid overload or impaired cardiac function.

Treatments used for cystic fibrosis include Dietary supplements, Penicillin and cough medicine. As well as postural drainage.

Treatments for ARDS are continuous positive airway pressure, oxygen therapy, and Mechanical ventilation.
