Guernica is a work of art created by the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso. It was developed in 1937 while he was living in Paris, it was painted as an immediate reaction to the Nazi’s devastating cassual bombing practice.
The figures in it show the desolation, destruction, and atrocities that innocent spanish people were suffering, as we can see many of them are dismembered, dead, or grieving. Picasso used muted colors to enhance this tragedy. Every element of this painting is a representation, for example Picasso said the runaway horse symbolises the people of Guernica, regarding the bull Pablo explained it meant brutality and darkness. It became popular due to a world tour, this helped bring the Spanish Civil war to the world's attention, till this day it remains relevant as a work of art, and as an anti-war and protest symbol.
