They hanged, beat, shot and burned anyone who helped the Whites
Red Army also had a way of Red Terror, with different boundaries that, should they be crossed, would cause the death of that person
Trotsky was a good military leader and made sure that the Red Army worked properly and had all the resources it needed

White Armies never became a united force, so Trotsky could fight them one at a time, and eventually, the Bolsheviks were safe

A trainload of Czechs got into a fight with the Soviet, and they ended up taking control of the town

Bolshevik opponents joined, and they all set up new governments and claimed their domain over Russia

The Tsar and his family were killed, Lenin was shot
Lenin's shooting convinced the Bolsheviks to take drastic action. They ordered the Cheka to commence the RED TERROR.
