Definition:Assessment conducted by teachers to decide where a student lands with the instructional content being taught. This assessment allows teachers insight to whether or not they need to adjust their instruction, activities or timing in order to better serve the students. This usually doesn't affect the student's performance or grade in the class.
Definition: This is how teachers look at the learning that occurred at the end of the unit or section. This is usually in the form of a quiz that will impact the student.
Definition: A way of testing students for specific standards. This comes in the form of tests that specifically target certain topics and content that student's are supposed to master. It is a way to hold a broad range of teachers in a wide area to an accountability system of teaching the same content.
Definition: Testing a student's ability through their performance.
Assessment that teachers can assess the student's pre-knowledge. This allows them to know where to base their lesson and what will need more teaching before they begin their instruction.
