Formative Assessment
Definition: A process to gather data on student learning during a lesson. This data is used to adjust instruction for the remainder of the lesson/unit.
Exit Ticket: Students will answer a question posed by the teacher before leaving the class. This question will be comprehension based to gauge where students are at from the lesson.
Quick Write: Students will be given one-three minutes to explain the main idea, key details, or other important pieces of information from the text that the class has been reading on a piece of paper.

Summative Assessment
Definition: This type of assessment is given at the end of a unit to assess what the student's learned throughout the unit.
Final Exams: Multiple-choice exams at the end of a semester or school year that covers all of the material covered up to that point.
Final Projects: Students complete an essay, diorama, or other form of showing understanding over a unit or semester's worth of learning.
Performance Assessment
Definition: A type of assessment that requires students to complete a task or set of tasks to show mastery.
Acting out: Students will act out parts of the story to show understanding of characters, key details, or the main idea of a story.
Science Experiments: Students will first identify a problem, then create their own experiment to show understanding of the scientific method.
Diagnostic Assessment
Definition: This type of assessment is given at the start of the year or a new unit to inform the teacher of students strengths and weaknesses, or understanding and gaps in understanding leading to new learning. The teacher will be able to differentiate the instruction based off this data.
Question Log: Students are given the subject of their next unit, and are tasked with creating questions that they want to answer with their learning in the new unit. Each week the students will create new questions and try to answer their old ones.
KWL Chart: Students fill out what they know about their new unit in the "K" category. After this the students will place what they want to know in the "W" category. Lastly, after the direct instruction is over the students place what they learned in the "L" category.
