Definition- These types of assessment are used as a quick survey of understanding and should be used to adjust instruction to better fit the students' needs.
Summative
Definition- These type of assessments are used to evaluate student learning and are typically taken at the end of a unit/specific time period for a grade.
Examples- Unit exams, Semester Projects, Final Exams.
Performance
Examples- Performing an original song to summarize Romeo and Juliet. Participating in Reader's Theatre for assessment in fluency.
Definition- In a performance assessments students are completing a task for their assessment instead of taking a traditional assessment with a variety of question types.
Benchmark
Examples- ITBS Test, STAAR Test.
Definition- Assessments used to measure students' learning and determine whether students' learning is on track.
Diagnostic
Examples- Running Records, Unit Pre-Assessment
Definition- Diagnostic assessments are used to determine what students might already know and what misconceptions they may have. These assessments are important for informing decisions about instruction and differentiation for students.
