Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are given at the end of a unit or instructional period. This type of assessment is used to evaluate student knowledge on what they learned and know.
Mid-term/Final Exams: Assessments given to students in the middle or end of a a course or unit to measure student knowledge on what they learned.
Projects: A collection of elements that are put together to demonstrate learning on a specific topic
Formative
Definition: Formative assessments are given to students to determine where they are academically. Formative assessments are measure student progress and are not graded.
Exit Slips: Used at the end of a lesson by students which give teachers feedback on what students understood/learned

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark assessments are fixed assessments that are given within a period of time throughout the school year in which evaluate student achievement based on standards and goals.
STAAR: State Exam given to students to determine how much they learned through the course of the year.
MAP: Exam given to measure growth, skills, mastery and student performance
Diagnostics
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are used to determine what students know and don't know. They also give teachers a deeper understanding of students' strengths and weaknesses which are used to differentiate lessons and instruction.

Pre-Tests: Assessments given to students in the beginning of a class to determine what they know before the introduction of a new lesson or unit.
Performance
Definition: Performance assessments are assessments that are given to students to determine how well they are able to apply and implement the knowledge and skills in a variety of tasks.
Research Paper: Students are given a topic do research by implementing what they know in order to find essential information.
Debates: Students develop a debate in which they take a stand on a topic and back it up with evidence from facts found through research.
