Interim/Benchmark
Maps Growth Assessment: Maps Growth Assessment is a computerized assessment that measures the students' achievement in reading and math.
STAAR:STAAR is the Texas standardized assessment that is administered to students in grades 3rd through 12th grade. These assessments measure what the students' knowledge on grade level concepts.
Summative
Living Things Research Project: Students log into an app that has different books about many living things. Students will pick one living thing they want to research. The app will read the text to the students so they will listen to information about their living thing and then answer questions about what makes their thing living. Next, they will use the information they gathered from the text and create a book all about the characteristics that make their selection a living thing.
Living Things Unit Exam: Students will answer 10 multiple choice questions about the characteristics of living and non-living things. These questions will cover all the material that was learned throughout the entire unit.
Performance
Retell: Act it Out: Students retell what they learned from the lesson by acting out what a specific thing needs to stay living.
Labeled Drawing: Students will draw a picture of a living thing in its home environment with the characteristics of living things. They will then label the characteristics in the picture.
Diagnostic
Running Records: Running records are used to determine a student's reading level, as well as document the student's reading traits.
Lesson Entry Ticket: Students will each be given a notecard at the beginning of the lesson. The students will be prompted to write or draw anything they know or want to know about living things.
Formative
Verbal Exit Ticket: As students are dismissed to line up for specials they will verbally tell the teacher 1 characteristic of something this living and an example of something that has that characteristic.
Sorting Bin Activity: Each student will be given 5 pictures with their name on the back. During the activity, each student will take a turn independently sorting their images into bins labeled living and non-living.
Definition: Formative assessment is a way to assess students to gather academic feedback about students in order to adjust instruction to meet where the students are at in their learning. These types of assessments are not usually for a grade, so they offer a low-stakes way for students to demonstrate their learning.
Interim/ Benchmark: Interim and benchmark assessments are used as a way to see if students are progressing in a manner that will help them be successful on future assessments.
Summative: Summative assessments are used to evaluate what the students have learned at the end of a unit of the semester. These assessments usually hold a heavy weight on the students' overall grade, so they are considered high stakes.
Performance Assessments: Performance assessments has the student complete a task for the assessment, rather than just answering questions.
Diagnostic Assessments: Diagnostic assessments are used to draw out any misconceptions a student may have about a particular concept and identify the students' strengths and weaknesses within that topic.
