Assessments
Formative
Definition: Formative assessments are given to students as they are learning content to check for mastery. The results of these assessments can then be used to plan adjustments and provide feedback to students so students can master the content.
Example: Students will complete an exit ticket writing about the main topics they learned about that day.

Diagnostic
Definition:Diagnostic assessments are pre-assessments given at the beginning of the school year and/or unit of learning to see the students' current strengths, weaknesses, and misconceptions. The results of the assessments are then used to plan instruction.
Example:Running records are used to see student's current reading level, fluency rating, and comprehension level.

Summative
Definition:Summative assessments are given at the end of a unit or other long periods of learning to assess student mastery of the content.
Example:Students take the STAAR exam at tend of the school year to assess their mastery in different content areas.

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Benchmark assessments are used to test students periodically. These assessments are used to gauge where a student is at in regards to meeting their goals.
Example: Students will complete the ISIP assessment on istation the beginning of every month to track reading progress.

Performance
Definition:Performance assessments are assessments were students are asked to show their mastery of the content by performing a task.

Example:Student work is complied into a portfolio to showcase both students strengths and areas of improvement.
