Definition: A formative assess is the process of gathering evidence from students learning and work to provide academic feedback and assess if instruction needs to be adjusted.

Exit Ticket: For math (Depending on grade level), students will need to correctly solve a math problem; e.g. 5+3 =, write the answer on the exit ticket and turn it in to the teacher.

Thumbs up/Thumbs Down: During or at the end of the lesson student will give a thumbs up or thumbs down as the teacher asks questions to assess comprehension.

Definition: A performance assessment requires student to preform the task rather than answering questions on a test.

Portfolios: Students can create a writing writing portfolio to show how their writing has improved.

Definition: The process to evaluate students at the end of a unit by comparing it to a state standard or benchmark.

Project: For a social studies lesson, a student can create a brochure for a country they have researched and would like to visit.

End of Unit Exam: The student takes an exam at the end of the unit to determine if the student has learned the material.

Final Exam: A student will take a final exam at the end of the term.

Definition: An assessment that is used to determine a student's strengths, weaknesses, and knowledge prior to instruction being taught.

Beginning of year running record: Teachers give students a diagnostic reading test to determine their reading level.

Pre Test: A pre test is given before teaching a new unit or topic so teachers are aware of students background knowledge.

Definition: An assessment given to determine the students achievement on state standards.

STAAR Exam: Assesses if the student has mastered the grade level standards.

Essay: A student will need to write an essay to show mastery of writing skills for the grade level.
