Performance
Definition: A performance assessment is an assessment where students demonstrate their mastery by doing hands-on projects or tasks that extend beyond answering (multiple choice) questions.
Graphic Organizer: Students will Draw a chain of events listing the cause and effect with errors leading from one to the next. Students will pick one animal from the book and decide what is causing that animal to become endangered and why they are losing the land they need.
Creating a model: Students will create a model of an ecosystem belonging to an animal of their choice from the book. Students will present and explain what factors of the ecosystem will affect their animals if removed or destroyed.
Diagnostic
Definition: A diagnostic assessment is an assessment that targets what a student knows and does not know. Diagnostic assessments are known to be used before the beginning of a unit so that teachers can plan instruction accordingly.
Phonics Inventory Diagnostic assessment that determines how familiar students are with phonics in relation to their reading and writing skills.
Word List Reading (Dolch) List of leveled words a student reads/decodes that a teacher uses to help determine reading level.

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: An intern/benchmark assessment is an assessment that are used to track student progress throughout the instructional unit to determine if the gaps are being met ot closed.
RENAISSANCE (HISD District Benchmark): Students are assessed on content levels like reading, math, science, social studies, and writing to gather data and determine the strength and needs of the student. STAAR: State exam that determines students' achievement in the form of scores broken down in data.
Formative
Definition: Formative assessment is an assessment used by the teacher throughout instruction to determine if students understand or do not understand in order to prepare for future instruction.
Exit Ticket: Students reflect on their thinking by sharing what they have learned by the end of the class period.
Low-Stakes Polls and Quizzes: Students participate in fun online quizzes to determine how much the know the content.
