Formative
Definition: A formative assessment is the process of gathering evidence of student learning to ajust instruction based on students needs.
Exit Slip: Students will answer questions based on what they learned that day. This helps the teacher to check for understanding.
Quizlet: Students can answer content related questions to check if they understand what they have learned.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: A Interim/Benchmark assessment is used to evaluate students and where they are at in the learning process. They are also used to determine if they are on track for future assessments.
STAAR: State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness is designed to measure what students learn in each grade and if they are mastering the content.
Semester Project: Students are given a project to assess learning gaps before new upcoming instruction.
Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are used to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit.
Midterm Exam: Exam given to students to assess what they have learned over a certain period of time.
