*Personal Note - While not in the classroom, as a former child welfare social worker, I regularly visited schools to follow up on physical abuse reports. Entering as a stranger, where trust had not been established, where teachers have yet to have a chance to respond themselves, it was a rough start. But, through home, school, hospital, and juvie visits, the children were often in my Jeep - which became my "Therapist's couch". With the top down (when possible), the wind in their hair, the stress leaving their tiny bodies was almost visible. I gave them control of the radio, which they loved, even if to simply turn it off and just hear the rushing wind. When raging, I let them rage, until they were spent, and then we'd move into discussing emotions. I moved slowly around them, especially as many were learning how to fight back, their emotions caged, ready to spring into action. All good kids who were belt a bad hand of cards.
