SECOND
ESTRUCTURE
If/Unless + past simple, + would+infinitive
EXAMPLE
if i won a million dolars, i would buy a car.
USE
We use the second conditional to talk about improbable or impossible situations in the present or future
ZERO
ESTRUCTURE
If/Unless + present, + present.
EXAMPLE
If you freeze water, it turns into ice.
USE
Talk about permanent truths, such as scientific facts, and general habits.
THIRD
ESTRUCTURE
If/Unless + past perfect, + would have+past participle
EXAMPLE
If i had got a gold medal, i would have been happy.
USE
We use the third conditional to talk about impossible situations, as in the second conditional, in the past.
FIRST
ESTRUCTURE
If/Unless + present, + future.
EXAMPLE
if it rains, i will stay at home
