wildlife tourism : tourism that provides close contact with wildlife and nature , observation ad interactions with animals and plant life in their natural habitats
ecotourism : tourism that has minimal impact on fragile natural environments and focuses on providing nature-based experiences

attracts tourists who want to experience an area's flora and fauna
popular activities : whale watching , safaris , bird watching , polar cruises , dolphin viewing , shark cage diving
also attracts tourists who want to see a rare species of an animal or want to view wildlife events like animal migration

according to the UNWTO report of measuring the economic value of wildlife watching in africa , 7% of world tourism relates to wildlife tourism and is growing by 3% annually
14 countries in africa are generating about US $142 million in entrance fees for protected areas
93 % of all natural sites support recreation & 91& provides jobs
in belize in africa , more than 50% of the population are supported by the income earned from wildlife tourism
what is it threatened by
diseases that cause animals to die
data : many amphibians in latin america and the carribean are dying due to the chytrid fungal disease
climate change -> loss of habitats for the animals
data : many birds and mammals in south-eastern asia are going extinction due to the conversion of lowland forest for industrial uses
actions of humans like poaching and illegal trafficking
data : more than 7000 species of animals and plants have been found in illegal trade and the list is still growing

: animals are forced to perform tricks for tourists , against their will

: tourists could spread illnesses onto animals which do not have the immunity against it , a common cold may not be a big deal for humans but it can kill a lion cub

: animals are unpredictable and one could easily be injured or killed by these animals

: have serious implications for its wellbeing , after spending a long time in captivity , these animals may not be able to survive in the outdoors and lose their natural hunting skills etc . , can even cause animals to have depression

: animals taken away from their usual habitat may have trouble breeding due to the unfamiliar surroundings
what we can do to ensure responsible and sustainable wildlife tourism
do our research before we go : only visit places that have good reviews and do not mistreat the animals
dont get too close to animals : it can scare them , change their behavior
choose to visit sanctuaries and rescue centers instead of zoos
animal souveniers : dont buy items that are made of animals part like ivy or fur
raise awareness
