Formative
Exit Ticket: Students answer a few questions after a lesson to assess knowledge acquired after instruction. Exit ticket can be a few questions, one question, or a summary of what they students learned.
Concept maps/mind maps: Students fill out concept maps or mind maps to represent their understanding of the topic.
Performance
Acting out: Students act out a story as a well to retell what they read or listened to, The teacher is able to assess the comprehension by watching the students retell the story.

KWL Charts: Students fill out the chart by writing about what they know, what they want to know, and what they learned over a specific topic.

STAAR Test Benchmarks: Standardized test given in Texas to students knowledge or mastery in grade level.

Summative
End of unit/midterm exams: Assessments given at the end of a unit or time period to assess students knowledge.
End of the Unit/Curriculum Projects: Assessment used to assess students knowledge of the unit. Instead of taking a multiple choice/true or false test, students get to demonstrate their knowledge by completing a project such as a research paper, a 3D model, a multimedia presentation, etc.

Definition: Interim (Benchmarks) assessments are used to see the students' progress in their learning as well as to see if they are on track. These assessments help teachers see if a student will do well in future assessments. Less chance for feedback.

The data collected from this assessment type can help teachers plan their instruction to meet the needs of their students.
Definition: Performance assessments require students to perform a task or skill instead of answering questions or taking a normal classroom test.
