There were no empires.
Each territory had an owner and was independent.
They were manors
Each village had there own rules
Feudal Contract
The lords gave protection to the vassals
The vassals gave service in return
They had this mutual help relationship
Nobels were usually the vassals and knights
Manorial system
freemen
They pay rent to live in the manor
They were skilled persons who offer something to the manor community
They had freedom and could live the manor at any moment.
serfs
Serves were attached to the land
They had no freedom
Were concidered nobels property
They were workers
The peasants were obliged to live on their lord's land and give him labor and a share of the produce,
The king was the owner of the land
Then there was the powerful nobles who organized a part of the land
Then the knights that protected the manor or village
At last the serfs and freemen who were the workers of the society
