What is it?
Very rare genetic disease
Dramatic, premature aging in childhood
Affects 1 in 4 million newborns
Symptoms:
Growth rate slows tremendously within first year of life
Baldness
Aged-looking skin
Pinched nose
Small face and jaw compared to head size
Stiffness in joints
Hip dislocations
Severe, progressive cardiovascular disease
How is it treated?
There is no current treatment
Some children undergo coronary artery bypass surgery to ease life-threatening cardiovascular disease

HGPS genetic testing
