What is Wilson Disease?

Diagnosis

The exam includes the use of a slit lamp to look at the Kayser-Fleischer rings in a person's eyes. Most people with Wilson disease show signs of liver damage/neurological damage
Doctors also test the amount of copper in a patients blood and urine. Individuals with Wilson disease will have low levels of copper in their blood, however individuals with liver damage will have high levels of copper

Symptoms
Wilson Disease affects several body systems, but the brain and liver may be harmed first
Symptoms of liver disease include: jaundice, fatigue, loss of appetite, swelling in abdomen, easily bruised
People with Wilson disease may also experience anemia, low levels of white blood cells, slow clotting of blood, high level of protein and amino acids in urine, early onset arthritis, and bone loss
