Impure air - miasma causing disruption to humours, originated from poisonous fumes released by earthquake and filthy streets - King ordered them to be cleaned

God had deserted mankind, punishment fro sin, 1345 - unusual positioning of planets - sign something was going to happen and part of God's plan to make people less sinful to avoid hell

bleeding/purging - caused more to die, strong smelling herbs, bursting buboes, all based from treatment by opposites
Common beliefs
Confession and praying, clear nobody could cure disease and lack of knowledge caused it and stopped people being able to cure

Confess sins, pray for forgiveness, inevitability - once you had it, meant it, go to church, pray in public
