The Atom - Coggle Diagram
The Atom
Atomic number
Number of protons + nuetrons in the nucleus of an element
Each element gets different characteristic based on Atomic numbers
Denoted by letter "Z"
Isotopes
These are substances with the same chemical properties and same number of electrons and protons
The only difference is that each of these substances have different number of nuetrons
Physical properties like boiling point, density change
Structure of an atom
Nucleus
Consists of protons and nuetrons in the center of the atom
Orbits
These are imaginary paths around the nucleus
Distrubution of electrons in the orbits
Distrubution of electrons in different shells is known as electronic configuration
Formula = 2n^2
4 shells
k = 2 electrons
L = 8 electrons
M = 8 electrons
N = 2 electrons
The octet rule states that in the third and last shell of atoms can only have 8 and 2 electrons respectively
Mass number
The total number of protons and nuetrons present in the nucleus of an atom
Denoted by the letter "A"
