have the patient turn, cough, and deep breathe for expansion of the lungs

assess abdomen for swelling, redness, or foul drainage

Pathophysiology
caused by obstruction of bowel movements, helminths, indigestible objects, cancer, or infections
inflammation of the appendix that usually requires surgery to remove it - removal of appendix is safe and one can live without it
a ruptured appendix allows digestive content to enter the abdominal cavity, causing peritonitis, a life-threatening surgical emergency

Patient Education
reduce patient stress and anxiety by sharing with them that removal of appendix is safe and appendix is not necessary to live with
share with physician immediately any symptoms of appendicitis to prevent complications from occuring
