National Indigenous History Month - Coggle Diagram
National Indigenous History Month
What do you already know about National Indigenous History Month?
We recognize that the land we live on used to be the land of various Indigenous people's (we are guests?)
We recognize this month because in the history of Canada the First Nations people's were not treated well and their kids were sent to residential schools where some of the kids died
We do it to pay respect and learn about the Indigenous People's of Canada because we took their land
What do you already know about the book "I am not a Number"?
I think its about kids being numbered
What do you already know about residential schools?
they were not good places where Indigenous kids were forced to give up their identities
Forced to become "normal"
recently someone dug up 215 buried kids
many kids died because of being in residential schools
Forced to "fit in"
they had cut their hair
Why do you think it's our responsibility to learn about the history of different groups of people, particularly groups that are marginalized?
(Marginalized groups are groups of people whose history and experiences are not often highlighted or well-known.)
So you know where people are coming from
You so could be respectful
To gain knowledge and understanding
You can learn about differences
You can learn about similarities
learn about how other people do things and compare to us
