Benchmark
Definition: Benchmark assessments are used to simply see where students are at with their learning. They are used to see if they are where they should be and to help guide further instruction.
6/9 Week District Assessment: This exam is given every 6-9 weeks to see if the students are where they should be and how we can get them where they should be by the end of the semester.
Middle of the year exam (MOY): This exam is given in the middle of the year to assess where the students are at and what we should do next to get them where they should be at the end of the year.
Performance
Definition: A form of assessment that is different from a regular test that answer questions. It requires student to prove or show their understanding by performing a task.
Projects: Students creating different projects to demonstrate their learning. Example: Making a poster, drawing a map, creatign a trip and planning money, etc.

Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are used to check for understanding at the end of a unit. These usually hold high grade values
Unit exam: Given at the end of each unit and checks for understanding of what was taught during that unit.
End of Year Exam: Students are given a cumulative exam that check to see what they learned throughout the entire school year.
Formative
Definition: Formative assessments are ways for teachers to check for understanding and assess the effectiveness of their instruction. These assessments are usually low stakes and will not hurt them too bad in the grade book.
Exit Ticket: Students are given an exit ticket with a few questions covering material given only in that instruction period. It allows for the teacher to check for understanding.
Reflection Journal entry: Having students keep a journal and enter their thoughts and understandings from that days lesson. This is a good time for students to reflect on anything they may not completely understand and for teachers to check for understanding.
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessments are to see what the student knows and doesn't know on a particular topic. These are pre- assessments that can help guide instruction for teachers.
Warm up: Teacher's can use a warm up to see what a student already knows about a topic and to use it as a base for their instruction. Can also use it to compare any growth students had a long the way.
KWL Chart: Students write what they already know about a topic, what they want to know, and what they learned during the lesson. It is a good tool for teachers to be able to see what the students already know and also what they want to know about the topic.
