Diagnostic Assessment
The purpose of this assessment is to give teachers an idea on students understanding in each subject areas. It helps teacher to plan lessons accordingly to provide individualized learning experience.
Example: assignment written at the beginning and end of a course, unit pretest, admission test.
Diagnostic assessment is a form of pre-assessment where teachers can evaluate students' strengths, weaknesses, knowledge and skills before their instruction.

Summative Assessment
Example: midterm, final exam, portfolio, end of the unit/chapter test, standardized test, and presentations.
Summative Assessment is a final check on students learning achievements. It is to see their final product of their learnings during certain period of time.
The purpose of this assessment is to measure student progress as an assessment of learning and provide data for the teacher, school leaders, and district leaders.

Formative Assessment
The purpose of this assessment is to check on students understanding during the process of learning to guide them accordingly. To make adjustment as students proceed with further materials.
Example: entry and exit ticket, short active quizzes and polls, participation cards for discussions.
Formative assessment is a quick way to check on what students know while they are still in the process of learning.

Assessment of Learning
The purpose of this assessment is to evaluate and see how much students have processed the unit learning materials to assess their strengths and weaknesses. In addition, it is to test students on their overall performance.
Assessment of learning is a summative assessment where it is used to understand how much students have acquired during a certain amount of period and if they are aligning to curriculum or grade-level standards.
Examples: exams, portfolios, final projects, standardized tests

Assessment as Learning
The purpose of this assessment is to conduct a progress check on students learning during class time. This data helps teachers to adjust further lessons according to how students are taking the lesson materials in.
Assessment as learning is a formative assessment where it helps teachers to check on students progress.
Examples: Exit tickets (both verbal and written format), and thumbs up and down.
Assessment for Learning
The purpose of this assessment is to get an idea of the individual students abilities. Then use the collected data plan and prepare the lessons according the individual students academic stages.
Examples: Reading assessment before the semester, English level test before the admission, unit pre-test/quiz.

Performance Assessment
Example: portfolio, oral test in a foreign language, solve math problems, explain historical events, generate scientific hypotheses, and conduct research on an assigned topic.
The purpose of this assessment is to evaluate students knowledge and abilities through a active demonstration.
Performance assessment is a form of testing that requires student to perform a task rather than select an answer from a ready-made list.
