INTERCULTURAL ECUADOR
INTERCULTURALITY
It is the social, cultural and communicative phenomenon in which two or morecultures, or rather representatives of different specific cultural identities, relate toeach other on an equal footing, without any one point of view predominating overthe others or being considered "normal".
CULTURAL RIGHTS
In recent years, our country has done important advances in the recognition of cultural diversity. Currently, the Constitution guarantees the rights of indigenous peoples, Afro-Ecuadorians and Montuvians
DISCRIMINATION
As a consequence of the economic system that characterizes our country (capitalism), the gap between rich and poor has widened. If we add cultural, ethnic, racial and gender discrimination to this reality, false images will be reproduced that promote the oppression of one group over another.
This is known as discrimination
In social behavior, discrimination is the unequal treatment of a person or group for racial, religious, physical, political, sex, age, physical or mental condition, sexual orientation, etc.
To say that blacks are lazy people, indigenous people are poor, women are inferior tomen, or that immigrants encourage crime andinsecurity are just some of the misconceptionsthat feed racism, machismo and xenophobia.
PROMOTING INTERCULTURALITY
There is still a long way to go on the road to an intercultural society, but we can propose some concrete actions:
Let us recognize diversity as a strength and not as a richness.
Let us have contact with those who speak other native languages such as Kichwa and express our interest in learning that language.
Let us participate in the intercultural festivities that take place in our parishes.
Let us wear typical clothes of the diverse Ecuadorian cultures.
Let us prepare meals that identify with the different cultures.
