PHYSIOLOGY 4-AFTER LOAD cntd
Outflow resistance>>Poiseulle’s equation
Quality of flow>laminar , turbulent with plaques
Arrhythmogenesis
Pacemaker dysfunction
• Conduction defects – heart blocks
• Re-entry pathways – pre-excitation
• Bundle branch blocks
• Ectopic excitation due to muscle damage, drugs
Anrep's effect
ensures that SV =
maintained high aortic pressures
↑ in tension compensates=↑ in
pressure (afterload)
Windkessel Effect
• During systole, arteries stretch>>limits the peak pressure>smoothens perfusion
• During diastole, the stretched arteries rebound
•Rebound= for coronary blood flow
Effect on SV
Normal:↑afterload>maintains SV via tension and contractility
Systolic heart Failure:↑ afterload>>SV not maintained>>Cardiac Failure
Dromotropism
Interference with the conductivity of muscle.
Affected by AV node delay
HR
-ve chronotropism>>↓HR(Bradycardia)
+ve chronotropism>↑HR(Tachycardia)>leaky Funny channels
Chronotropism:interference with HR
