What is oxygen used for in our bodies?
Types of respiration
How does oxygen reach organs?
Circulatory system
Oxygen is used to obtain energy in the form of ATP
This happens through cellular respiration, this is a process of breaking down food in cells in the presence of oxygen to release energy
It happens during a process called gas exchange, there the oxygen moves from the lungs to the bloodstream and then to the organs

Aerobic respiration
Anaerobic respiration
In this process glucose breaks down in the cell and energy is released but without oxygen
It is a chemical/oxigenated reaction that happens inside every living cell in which energy is released from glucose so the cell can use it
The formula for this is: C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2O
glucose → lactic acid (+ ATP made)
They both need glucose
Respiratory system
Its function is to absorb oxygen from the air so organs can work. It is also responsible for breathing and cleaning waste gases from the blood
Its function is to carry oxygen and nutrients to cells and take away wastes.it does this by using a network of blood vessels,The capillaries have very thin walls, and through them, nutrients and oxygen are delivered to the cells.
