The media reaches the majority of the population. The Media has the capacity to promote cultural, social and educational values that allow the development of citizens; or, on the contrary, to spread ideals, habits and customs alien to the national reality and for commercial purposes. The first newspaper to circulate in Ecuador was Primicias de la Cultura de Quito, published by Eugenio Espejo in 1791. The oldest newspaper still in circulation is El Telégrafo, founded in Guayaquil in 1884. The first television broadcast in Ecuador happened in 1959. According to its interests, it can build an image of a stable or unstable society, safe or unsafe, diverse or homogeneous.
