Problem of evil - Coggle Diagram

- - - - God gave us a perfect world and told us to be stewards of it, but we have disobeyed him and destroyed this world, this is where other animals are going extinxt becasue of our issue. Becasue our human preception is limited meaning that some evil can then lead to good. e.g.t he book of Job, additioanlly this is also shown through Jesus, death as he dies on the cross (something evil) to then save all of our
- - - - Counter argument being that this idea goes against logic itself, this maybe a restricition of our human repcetion to maybe not understand this idea,, but God cannot create something that is free and do good all at the same time
- - - - we need free will so that we can develop attributes like genrosity, love, indness, faith, honour, We can use the example of a robot an machine reductionism, a robot has no free will, and does not develop any of these attributes, meaning that becasue we have free will we can do alot of good, and also alot of bad too
        
        naturlal disasters allow humans to develop intelklictually and allow us to be better people.
        
        Hick - moral evil, free will is invauble, without it humans would be like like robots. we will not be able to develop virtues like kindness and compassion without our free will.
        God remains at n epistmeitc distance in order to presever our free will, this idea links with A.P. WIllston as he tells us that God limits his power just so that we can have free will.
        
        Hick - natural evil, evil is instrumantally good as it allows people to have the oppurtunities to show the goodness that they have developed over time - this idea links with irenuaes idea that we are made inperfect and we develop over time. Evil allows humans to show their kindness e.g. 9/11 allowed all of the differrent services to come together and show compassion to each other,
        
        additionaly, we also learn through over peoples experiances, this tells us that we do not need to experiaince pain and suffereing directly to tell that something is wrong, we can learn from other peoples mistakes. this is the idea of vicerous reinforcement and is a priori aruement
  - - - Hume keeps questiong the idea that, Why does God not allow us to learn from pleasure rather than pain, this would make the world alot more hospitalital to more people, this would make the world a better place.
- - - - Augstiens theodicy tells us that God created ther world out of nothing (as refrenced in the bible in genesis). Augustine tells us that there is no such ting as evil, evil is the good of privation of good - this then gives God the help that he is not repsonsible for he evil that iis in this world becasue he never cretaed it. we have control over it instead
    - - By oing this would then restrict our free will, and make us unable to make the decison that we want, this qwould be wrong to have, God wants us to learn from our mistakes and to follow him, becsue the right decison would to be followng Gods decison, but then he would not know if people are following him because they want to or have to. this is where there is judgement ay where God will serpeate the sheep froms the goats
- - - - free will and natural evil - he argues that detah is a part of nature, Swinburne tells us that a world withou death gives us no ultimate sacrafise. Additonally the idea of having a certian amount of time focues their attention on how they would live - life would have no risk.
        
        death limits the amoutn of pain and suffereing a person recieves, this means that people who have a bad quality if life will be like that forever, and there will be no way
        
        Hick comapres evil(free will defence) to physical execerise, this is the idea that we go to the gym, we try and stress, then we come out better as our msucles ache, we get stronger. He relates this to evil, we go through evil to make us stronger so that we are better people.
