How has COVID-19 negatively impacted our environment?
Option 2
oil and canvas
idea: paint a globe covered with a big mask above a pile of masks and toxic waste rising above (By:6/13)
Background Information
PPE such as masks, gloves, and other safety equipment has significantly increased the amount of healthcare waste
The littering of masks has clogged water ways and worsened pollution in a different aspect. As one major contributor to pollution decreases (cars), another one arises (masks)
The daily production of plastic based equipment and masks has increased to 14.8 million since the initial outbreak in February 2020
In view of the lockdown we experienced, online shopping has indirectly also soared the level of pollution
Online shopping and home deliveries has expanded the amount of shipping materials each house hold intakes
Due to the virus, many countries delayed the process of waste recycling (an effective process that decreases how much we pollute while conserving available resources) in order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases at recycling facilities
As a result of this delay, there has been a rise in landfilling and overall environmental pollutants
My inspiration:
Relevant to what we are currently experiencing
We are actively contributing to this problem
Passionate about learning how to decrease my carbon footprint
We only hear about how COVID-19 has positively impacted our environment
Ex: Cars were used less than average since everyone stayed home and as a result of this they contributed less to pollution.
What I learned from my painting:
