Biology
cells - prokaryotic and eukaryotic and makes up cells
Eukaryotic
animal and plant cells
all have cell membrane, cytoplasm, and genetic material (DNA) in the nucleus
DNA - chemical that forms chromosomes (in the nucleus)
animals, human beings, plants, fungi and protista are all eukaryotes.
Prokaryotic
bacteria - single celled living organisms
0.2 - 2.0μm in length - typical of prokaryotes
have cytoplasm and cell membrane with a cell wall but no cellulose like plant cells. some have protective slime capsule around cell wall. some types of bacteria have at least one flagellum (plural: flagella) to move themselves around.
The bacterial chromosome is a single DNA loop found free in the the cytoplasm. Also have small rings of DNA called plasmids, can be used for antibiotic resistance.
organs
tissues
specialised cells
magnification
microscopes - how to use
osmosis and active transport
adapted cells
cell division - mitosis
chromosomes
46
23 pairs
circulatory system - arteries and veins
arteries - oxygenated away from heart
veins - deoxygenated to the heart
digestion
food group tests - starch, sugar etc
disease and prevention
stem cells
cell cycle
cloning (therapeutic)
take nucleus from patient cell to transfer to egg cell with no nucleus
advantages
allows patient's own cells to be used to treat or cure disease
no risk of rejected foreign cells
disadvantages
risk of cell mutation
minerals essential for plant growth
Nitrogen
Potassium
Phosphorus
