When they are given freedom and opportunity to initiate motor play, such as running, bike riding, sledding, skating, and wrestling, it supports their sense of initiative. Initiative is also supported when parents answer their children's questions and do not make fun of or discourage them. When children feel their motor activity is bad, asking question is a nuisance, or their play is silly, then they often develop a sense of guilt over self-initiated activities and go on through life's later stages.
