the thirties was a period in time where men needed to show their masculinity in order to be respected Curley is a small man and thus not very masculine in other people's eyes therefore he tries to prove his masculinity by fighting larger men, Curley has an innate hatred towards men who are larger then him as they are often seen as more masculine so he constantly tries to fight larger men including Lennie in order to prove himself as a masculine man
