The last years have been fruitful for our football. The national team qualified on two consecutive occasions to the World Cups of Korea-Japan 2002 and Germany 2006. These participations have made football an important element of affirmation of our national identity, and have drawn international attention to our football. Several Ecuadorian players have been hired in countries such as England, Russia, Holland, Italy, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and Qatar.
