Performance
Definition: Performance Assessment is also known as Alternative or Authentic Assessment. Educators use this assessment to measure how well the student apply the skills and knowledge learned in a unit of study.
Example 2.
A written report.
Students composing a few sentences in an open-ended written short response.
Example 1.
Problem-Solve in Math.
Students apply their knowledge by solving a three step word problem in mathematics.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: these assessments are used to track student mastery to inform educators how to guide future instruction, so students can be prepared for the state/summative exam.
Example 1 MAP test.
Computerized test to show students achievement in Math, Reading and Science.
Example 2. STAAR Interim Test
An assessment that is based on test curriculum standards in core subjects: Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies and Science.
Diagnostic
Definition: this type of assessment will inform teachers about learning gaps, weaknesses and strengths of the student.
