Formative
Definition: Formative assessments monitor students learning by providing ongoing feedback that teachers can use to improve their teaching.
Short Sentences: Students will submit one or two sentences identifying the main function of the roots in a plant.

Performance
Definition: Performance assessment is a form of assessment that requires students to perform a task rather than select an answer from a ready-made list.
Making a Drawing: Students will create their own drawing illustrating the plant's parts and function.
Act It Out: Students will perform in front of class by showing with their bodies the parts of a plant. Acting as a plant is a form of assessing students understanding of the different parts of a plant.
Diagnostic
Definition: Diagnostic assessment is a form of pre-assessment where teachers can evaluate students' strengths, weaknesses, knowledge and skills before their instruction.
Phonics Inventory: Reading assessment that measures fluency of the phonological decoding and sight word reading of older.

Interim/Benchmark
Definition: ** Interim/benchmark assessment is a comparison of student understanding or performance against a set of uniform standards to determine if they are on track as well as how well they will perform in the future.
SAT: The SAT benchmarks are designed to reflect whether a student has a high likelihood of being successful in subject-specific first-semester courses.
STAAR: STAAR tests show whether a student has mastered specific knowledge of a core subject at a certain grade level.
Summative
Definition: Summative assessments are used to evaluate the learning at the end of an instructional unit, and they do consist of a grade.
Final Project: Students are to create a final projects in which they would create a model identifying each part of the plant.
Midterm Exam: Students will have a midterm exam that consists of 10 multiple choice questions to assess their knowledge over the term.
