Definition
Where a student takes what they learned through the semester or unit and is put into a big assessment that is then graded using a rubric.
Performance

Student Portfolio: Where the student puts all there positive work into a bundle of work that they can show to important people
Group Project: This allows the student to work together and decide roles for students to complete the assignment in a formal manner as quickly and efficient.
Interim/Benchmark
Example
Unit Test: Since some grading periods is every 6 weeks, providing a test per 6 weeks based on the covered units, can allow teacher to take students knowledge and provide more support throughout the next 6 weeks and if anything needs to be retaught.
Chapter Test: When going through the chapter, after reading it, hand out a test that covers the chapter to capture student knowledge

Formative
Definition
Involves providing feedback on evidence that is gathers to conclude in adjusting instruction to better support students. These types of assessments do not have a lot of grade value.
Example
Exit Ticket:Allows them to answer the essential questions to show evidence that they understand the concept.
Think-Pair-Share: Where a student talks to a partner to discuss questions and then later discusses with class.
Diagnostic
Definition
Usually given before anything, like first day of class or before a unit that is being taught, this gives the teacher a summary of what they already know.

KWL: Putting down what the KNOW and WHAT they want to learn, and after the lessson, they can put what they LEARNED
TEK K.9.B: The student is expected to: examine evidence that living organisms have basic needs such as food, water, and shelter.
