This assessment is used to gage where students are in their learning. Teachers make adjustments on the fly to modify their instructions.
Example: Asking comprehension questions in classes, or giving quizzes. :silhouettes:
Example: Exit tickets about what the students feel they know well and what they still have some questions about. :pencil2:

Diagnostic :warning:
These are used to evaluate a student's strengths or weaknesses. It helps teachers customize instructional plans such as grouping, interventions, or to address misconceptions and learning gaps.

Performance :star:
It is usually given near the end of the unit when the students have accumulated enough learning to perform a related task. It is usually multi-stepped.
Example: Assigning a science fair project with an oral presentation of their learning. :explode:
Example: Having students create a portfolio of their best writings in different genres. :fountain_pen:
Interim/Benchmark
These are check-ins to see if the student is making progress and if they are on track. They are usually cumulative of what was already covered. They help the teacher and district see where the students are in their learning.
Example: STAAR Interim predicts how well the students will perform on the STAAR based on how they do on the test. :pen:
Example: TELPAS is used to monitor the growth of how English Language Learners are becoming proficient in their use of English. :smiley:
