Computer Networks
Different types of computer networks
LAN(Local Area Network)
WAN(Wide Area Network)
WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network)
Topologies
Ring Topology. One main line that all are connected to. First and last computers are connected
One advantage is that it is budget friendly.
One disadvantage is that if the main line fails, all the computers will fail.
Star topology. All computers are connected to a main hub
One advantage is that even if one computer fails, rest will work.
One disadvantage is that if the main hub fails, rest of the computers will fail
Bus topology. Computers are connected to one main wire/line
One advantage is that is is fast.
One disadvantage is that if one computer fails, rest will fail.
Advantages of a computer network
File sharing will be very easy to everybody
Common resources can be used eg. printer, copier, etc.
Disadvantages of a computer network
One disadvantage of a computer network is that usually if a main switch fails, the rest of the network fails too.
Hacking into many computers will be easy as they are all interconnected
