Pathophysiology
cardiac problems, pneumonia, exposure to certain toxins and medications, trauma to the chest wall, and exercising or traveling at high elevations are common causes
acute pulmonary edema is considered a medical emergency and requires immediate care that can lead to death
condition caused by excess fluid in the lungs, resulting in difficulty breathing
also known as lung congestion, lung water, and pulmonary congestion; body struggles to get enough oxygen and causes shortness of breath
Medications

oxygen such as an oxygen mask, nasal cannula, or positive pressure mask
morphine which helps relieve shortness of breath, however, typically held off by doctors because of the risk factors
Patient Education
don't smoke, eat less salt, choose a healthy diet
