Assessments

Definition- an assessment that helps teachers to identfy concepts that students are struggling to understand, skills they are having difficulty acquiring, or learning standards they have not yet achieved.

Formative

Definition- an assessment that evaluates student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark.

Summative

Definition- an assessment that educators use to evaluate where students are in their learning process and determine whether they are on track to perform well on future assessments.

Interim/Benchmark

Definition- a pre-assessment where teachers can evaluate students' strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills before their instruction begins.

Diagnostic

Definition- a form of testing that requires students to perform a task rather than select an answer from a ready-made list.

Performance

Word List Reading- students will read from a curriculum sight words list to determine what they know and what words they will need to have instruction over.

Running Record- students will read a raw text and answer comprehension questions to determine their reading level.

Midterm Exam- students will take an exam over everything they've learned throughout the semester.

Final Book Exam- students will take an exam after completing the reading of a book. They will be tested over the entirity of the book.

Test Review- students will take a test review to determine what they will need to study for the actual exam.

PSAT- students will take the practice SAT to determine how they will score on the real SAT. This allows students to understand what skills they need to practice.

Research Paper- students will craft an original research paper to show what they've learned.

Laboratory Investigation- students will participate in a lab to be assessed on what they know and understand.

Exit Ticket- students will quickly write a short response to a question on a slip of paper and turn it in at the end of class. The teacher will use this to determine future instruction.

Class Poll- students will complete a class poll to inform their instrucor on whether or not they understand the matieral presented in class.
