Hubble's Law - Coggle Diagram
Hubble's Law
Big Bang Theory
theory states that the world started completely condensed and then exploded and expanded
1st proposed by Georges Lemaitre in 1927
supported by the fact that the universe is expanding
Blueshift
light from a source moving towards an observer is toward the blue end of the spectrum
light waves in front of the source are being compressed
faster=more blueshift
Cepheid Variable
star that regularly expands and contracts
gas pressure causes expansion
expansion relieves pressure and the star contracts
Absolute Brightness
natural brightness of star
depends on luminosity
Absorption Spectrum
created when light from a star passes through cool gases
lines correspond to color of light absorbed
Apparent Brightness
brightness the observer sees
ratio of the brightness of the star over brightness of the Sun when viewed from the distance of 1 Mpc
