Formative
Definition: Formative assessment is a way of assessing students to get feedback to use for modifying and adjusting instruction. These assessments are low stakes, so they have little to no grade value.
Character analysis: students will fill out what the character said, how the character felt, and the actions the character took.
Plot chart: students will describe what happened at the beginning, climax, and ending of the story.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Interim/Benchmark assessments are used to see where students are in their learning and determine if they are on track with their learning to do well on future assessments.
STARR: Texas standardized test given to assess students learning and mastery in grade level subject.

Definition: A performance assessment is an assessment that requires students to perform a task rather than regular tests or answering questions.

Definition: Diagnostic assessments are used as forms of pre-assessments to determine a student's strengths and weaknesses as well as prior misconceptions. This information can help teachers to plan their instruction to meet students needs.
