Chemical Changes, Metal Oxide + Hydrogen -> Metal + Water - Coggle…
Chemical Changes
Neutralisation reaction
Acid + Base -> Salt + Water
H+ + OH- -> H20
Extraction of Metals
Ore = rock containing enough of a metal to be economical to extract
You can extract any element above Carbon (in the reactivity series) using electrolysis
You can extract any element below Carbon (in the reactivity series) with reduction
Metal Oxide + Carbon -> Carbon Dioxide + Metal
Iron(III) Oxide + Carbon -> Iron + Carbon Dioxide
Ionic Equations
Only show what is reacting
Mg(s) + ZnCl2(aq) --> MgCl2(aq) + Zn(s)
Cross out the Spectator ions:
Mg(s) + Zn2+(aq) --> Mg2+(aq) + Zn (s)
The Chloride Ions don't change- they are spectator ions:
2Cl- --> 2Cl-
Describe the difference between concentrated and strong acids
Strong acids fully ionise (H+ ions)
Concentrated acids mean how much acid there is in a certain volume of water
Metals + Acids --> Soluble Salt + Hydrogen
Metals + Water --> Metal Hydroxide + Hydrogen
Acid + Metal Oxide --> Salt + Water
Acid + Metal Hydroxide --> Salt + Water
Metal Oxide + Hydrogen -> Metal + Water
