Audio (Output & Input)
The individual “cue” or voice that the communication may hear. This is often done in a separate audio channel like using a headphone or separate speaker embedded in the users headrest. It is “private” because it is intended only for the communication user.

Access or Input Methods relate to how a person interfaces with the vocabulary and equipment. Often this has been denoted as “Direct” or “Indirect” but this is broken down to the different forms of access here as these terms can often be confusing

External control relates to the control of a computer. Often this means using the same Access Method and language for AAC to write into other programs such as a word processor, Email etc.
The computer connects to a second Computer - wirelessly or otherwise and sends the keystrokes or messages to the other computer. Sometimes software or hardware is required for the second computer to do this.

Many AAC systems allow you to control computer programs on the same device. This is often done by splitting the screen with one section for the AAC keyboard/language and the other for the software it is controlling. Alternatively a way of “Sharing” the language to other apps maybe possible.
