POPULAR ENTERTAINMENT
Another element of entertainment in our country are the popular festivals that are characteristic elements of our national, regional, and local identity.
In celebrations, such as the Old Year or the Carnival, adults, young people and children from all regions and social sectors participate.
In the indigenous traditions,
the celebration is not only a diversion but a collective ritual linked to religiosity.
The festivities of the patron saints are very important; they are also very important for the popular sectors of the Afro-Ecuadorian mestizos, who even in the urban centers
THE USE OF FREE TIME
The use of our free time is another of the needs we have not only as human beings but also as members of an organized society.
Carrying out recreational and fun activities allows each person to develop integrally and to form social bonds with other people during recreation and leisure.
In addition, it makes it possible for our mind and body to refresh and gather energy to cope with work and study.
ECUADORIAN’S FUN
Our recreation and leisure activities are not the same. They change according to our
interests and tastes, and according to the passage of time.
The way children and young people have fun is not the same as that of adults. There are differences marked by age, gender, regional origin, and economic level of people.
In previous times it was frequent to go for walks outside the city (to visit farms, spas, or rural towns) or to frequent the parks during the weekend to walk or do sports.
OUTDOOR GAMES
Until not so many years ago, it was common for children to play outdoors at school with their classmates and in the street with friends.
Games such as hopscotch or spinning top, jumping rope, and marbles, passing the cane through the hoop, or racing wooden cars were common.
Although some of them are still practiced, their place in children's recreation has been taken by new forms of entertainment, such as television and video games.
ADULT RECREATION
-
-
In the cities it is very common to practice gymnastics, jogging or running in the morning, besides the game of volleyball, basketball, and soccer during the weekend.
HAVING FUN TOGETHER
We Ecuadorians like to have fun together in orderto strengthen the community, family, and friendship ties.
This aspect is not very frequent in other societies where individualism and personal satisfaction prevail over the community's interests.
YOUTH’S FREE TIME
The taste for certain musical rhythms, movie stars and sportsmen defines, to a great extent, youth
identities, and promotes the appearance of
subcultures and alternative communities or social networks.
